King was found fatally shot on Friday, June 18 1982. He was found in his vehicle on Eastbound Hwy 270 and Old Halls Ferry Rd. A witness observed a silver and black 1976 Ford Futura drive the wrong way down the embankment onto the highway and strike the median where the vehicle came to a stop. Police originally thought it was an auto accident but when taken to the hospital it was determined that the victim had sustained several gun shot wounds. He was an apprentice pipefitter and had played softball earlier that day. He then dropped off a fellow player at his home in Ferguson prior to being shot.
