On September 18, 2000, 75-year-old James “Jim” Campbell went to the Meramec Marina, located at 13156 Old Gravois Road in Sunset Hills, to meet someone.
Campbell had told several people the previous day that he was planning to meet an individual at the marina. However, Campbell was experiencing some memory loss at the time and could not recall the identity of the person he intended to meet. Shortly after arriving at the marina, Campbell was shot.
He was found lying on the main dock suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite his injuries, Campbell was able to provide investigators with a description of the person who shot him. He stated that he had been shot with a shotgun by a white male in his mid-20s with blond, curly hair.
Campbell survived the initial shooting but succumbed to his injuries approximately seven weeks later.
